The Pilates Method was not originally designed for large classes (you might find it today, though). This is one reason why I offer only personal (private) and duet training.
My story
I graduated from university in 2003 and have been teaching ever since (I hold 2 MAs in English and Russian language and literature). Having lived in 3 European countries, I have met people from all walks of life who have various needs and tremendous difficulties in how to communicate all these. Also, I am a mum of two kids who are completely the opposites of each other.
It is all well and good to know the exact Pilates movements, the repertoire, to be prompt to come up with modifications and to do workshops with master teachers. Whereas, it takes time and experience to be able to pass on the necessary knowledge to your client, to know what and when to say, and how to formulate your ideas for people of all kinds of cultural backgrounds.
In the summer of 2000 my Alexander technique teacher advised me to join Miriam Friedrich Pilates classes as a possible solution for my recurring modern ballet injuries (mainly due to the lack of flexibility and muscular imbalance).
My journey in the Pilates world began and in 2008 I completed my first comprehensive Pilates teacher training program with Elena Graziadei (classical) and in 2010 my second BASI comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program with Amit Younger (London). I was hooked! It was such an effective, challenging and efficient way to work out. Every part of my body engaged, strengthened and stretched within an hour. Ideal to me.
I continue to invest time and considerable expense in continuing my education, having attended Pilates workshops with Clare Dunphy Hemani, Deborah Lessen, Brent Anderson and my mentor in the last 13 years, Amit Younger. I have taken part in shooting Pilates video classes for Pilates websites e.g. Yoopod and Gyerunkanyukam and in the Pilates Transparency Project.
